Sehaj Dhaliwal for Northshore School District Director,
District 4

Fresh Vision. Community Focused. Ready to Lead.

Sehaj is the new generation of leadership Northshore needs: bold, community-driven, and unapologetically focused on what matters. With fresh eyes and fierce commitment, she’s here to cut through the noise, put people first, and fight for a school system that truly serves students, parents, and educators. This isn’t politics. It’s purpose.

Hi, I'm Sehaj

Education Advocate | Policy & Governance Graduate | Focused Early Leader

As a recent graduate from the University of Washington with a degree in Political Science and Public Policy, Sehaj brings both academic insight and lived experience to the table. With growing concerns over school funding and the future of public education, Sehaj brings a deeply personal connection to the district and its students.

“I’m a proud product of the NSD school system. I know its strengths and its challenges like the back of my hand,” she said. “My education shaped who I am, and I want to make sure today’s students–and tomorrow’s–receive the same opportunities. Our generation must be at the policy table as critical decisions about public education are being made.”

Key Priorities:

  • Education That Puts Students First: Our district is in debt, and smart budget choices matter now more than ever. My priority is student learning and growth inside existing schools, not new buildings. That means protecting funding for extracurriculars, arts, sports, mental health, and special education. These programs are essential, not optional. Every student deserves a well-rounded education, and every parent and teacher deserves to be heard.
  • Affordability & Fiscal Responsibility: Families shouldn’t pay more while getting less. I will demand transparency, accountability, and smart spending focused on what truly benefits students and teachers.
  • Young Voices in Leadership: My generation deserves a seat at the table not just a mention. I’m committed to amplifying young voices and encouraging youth involvement in civic life. We are not just the future, we are the present.
  • School & Community Safety: As someone passionate about law and law enforcement, and on the path to a full-time career in the field, I bring a unique perspective on safety and trust-building. I support proactive, community-minded measures to keep students and staff secure.

A Diverse Background in Public Service
Sehaj brings a diverse background in public service, with experience spanning the legal, nonprofit, healthcare, and financial sectors.

  • A core focus of her work has been supporting women affected by human trafficking, providing individualized recovery support and advocating for their long-term stability.
  • As a legal assistant, she has contributed to legal research, client services, and community-based care. Her commitment to equity, advocacy, and empowerment drives her approach to leadership and public impact.
  • Trained in taxes and preparing tax returns, she’s assisted clients file from many different career tracks and jobs.
  • She is also active in environmental restoration, library programming, cultural advocacy, and youth mentorship, deepening her roots in the Northshore community.

  • These experiences have sharpened Sehaj’s understanding of how systems impact everyday people and strengthened her commitment to advocacy, fairness, and community-centered leadership.

Why I am Running for Northshore School District:

“If there’s one thing we need to get right, it’s education. Our future depends on it,” Sehaj said. “I know the district is facing real financial pressure and rising debt, but that doesn’t mean we cut what matters most. We manage our budget wisely while protecting the people and programs that directly support student learning – teachers, mental health services, extracurriculars, and academic support. These aren’t extras. They’re essentials.”
“Americans often talk about how important it is for the next generation to step up and get involved in politics and governance,” Sehaj said. “I believe that time is now.”
Sehaj represents a new wave of leadership. “We are the most educated generation in American history, and we bring a new lens to leadership – open-minded, digitally fluent, and community-centered,” Sehaj added. “We know that mistakes made now will be ours to fix later. That’s why we’re not waiting – we’re engaging now.”
“I’m looking forward to working alongside parents, educators, and students to make sure we prioritize what truly matters for our kids' future.”

Why School Board? Why Now? Why Sehaj Dhaliwal?

  • Despite the challenges of graduating from college, finishing classes, keeping up with my jobs, and still being active in several organizations, I am sure that my future belongs following my interest in public service and serving on a school board from the school district that gave me the great gift of a good education.
  • I believe my generation has much to offer in helping solve today’s greatest challenges: we see and can help increase digital updates in making education systems more efficient and hopefully less costly; we see different needs in an education that will allow us all to best compete (international commerce needs, public safety changes that involve different response training, education choices with more inclusion and accommodation to today’s student needs, and adjusting to almost daily new discoveries).
  • There are few people under 30 who publicly serve on School Boards. We talk a different language of needs and solutions to prepare our next generation of citizens. The complex world of providing education to ready new generations for jobs, civic engagement and basic economic development conditions changes so fast. More of us from this generation need to be at the table when decisions involving today’s education policies are discussed and put into place.
